Luminosity masks don't make a huge difference for this picture but I was able to preserve the sun better given it more true orange glow rather than the burnt out disc that my original post shows. When I was shooting the sunset in Crescent City, CA I was using the rock in the left of this frame to block the sun as it was setting. Fortunately I stepped to the side a little and was able to see the sun dip below the horizon. I quickly composed and shot as the sun faded away.
