Aaron Cowan > This is one of my favorite shots of Kathryn Lake taken during our short one night backpacking trip. I decided (unfortunately probably) to not get up before sunrise. I instead got up about 30 minutes afterwards and quickly got my gear and went out. I determined the previous afternoon that this spot would look good in the morning aside from the dark trees on the left. I particularly like the rocks that can seen the bottom portion of the frame.

Aaron Cowan > Sunrise on Mount Heyburn (left) and Thompson Peak (right). Thompson Peak is the highest mountain in the Sawtooths at 10,751'.
Aaron Cowan > Moon and unnamed Lost River peak. This picture captures the fantastic swirling rock layers that comprise the Lost River Range. A friend has jokingly coined the term "vertiswirlies" (which is a metaplasm of vertical and swirly) to describe this feature. Edit: This is a revised version of a previous post. I added a B&W luminosity layer to accentuate the mountainside.
Aaron Cowan > B&W conversion of Pass Lake pinnacles and moon at sunrise.
Aaron Cowan > Another shot of White Cap Peak (with sunrise light on top) and Pass Lake. The rocky shoreline of Pass Lake was very intriguing.
Aaron Cowan > White Cap Peak and Pass Lake in pre-dawn light. White Cap Peak stands almost 2000' directly above Pass Lake.
Aaron Cowan > Pass Lake pinnacles and moon in the morning in the Lost River Range.
Aaron Cowan > The deep blue color of Kathryn Lake with Elk Peak and Reward Peak reflected in morning light.
