Aaron Cowan > East Fork of the Owyhee River Canyon in early morning light (still in the shade). This was a short hike downstream from Garat Crossing. The sun hadn't made it above the canyon walls yet so I was able to capture even light across the scene. I had taken some pictures capturing more of the scene but the bright sky made it very difficult (and less interesting too). The B&W slot canyon photo I have on this site was taken just to the left of where I was standing for this picture.
Aaron Cowan > Sunset above the East Fork of the Owyhee Canyon.

Aaron Cowan > Dawn along the East Fork of the Owyhee River. I first awoke at 5:45 and noticed clouds around the half-moon. When I woke up for pictures an hour later, there were still clouds in the sky--just enough to add to the morning scenery. I went back to the previous evening's spot for sunrise since this was the closest and best spot. I particularly like the pink light that is reflected in the river below. It was a beautiful morning!
Aaron Cowan > Green ryholite cliffs of the Owyhee River (East Fork). I had set up camp just above Garat Crossing and then I began hiking over to the Tules. I didn't make it all the way because I wanted to get back to camp in time for sunset photo-ops. However, I did find a nice deep, meandering canyon. I like the juxtaposition of the green cliffs with the reflected cliff face in the river.
Aaron Cowan > Afternoon light reflecting in the East Fork of the Owyhee River. After this photo I bushwacked my way down to the river's edge but wasn't able to get all that far. Perhaps this was a better capture then what I could have obtained. The actual Garat Crossing is in the upper left-hand portion of the picture. I could see where tracks dropped in the river and came out but I don't know that they get used that often. The route on the other side of the river seemed very faint and even worse than the "road" that I had walked down on.
Aaron Cowan > Doyle's Place in Owyhee County, Idaho. The composition would probably be better if there was more above the cabin, but if I went any higher than I would have had the sky strongly lit by the morning sun (the cabin faces northwest).
Aaron Cowan > Juniper Gulch trail in the Leslie Gulch State Recreation Area of Southeastern Oregon.
Aaron Cowan > Rock formation atop Reynolds Creek canyon.
