Aaron Cowan  > American Southwest > 4x4 and Hiking in Utah
Prior to Thanksgiving 2009 Tim Parnell and I had planned a trip to see some slot canyons and 4x4 around Moab, Utah. Over the short course of two and half days we hiked Crack Canyon and LIttle Wild Horse Canyon in the San Rafael Swell, then drove over to Moab and spent some time in Arches National Park and 4x4ing in the Sandflats Recreation Area. It was an exhausting trip but I'd do it again in a hearbeat! I will be posting other pictures in the Moab Gallery.

Aaron Cowan > Tim saw the opportunity to drive up some sandstone and seized it (San Rafael Swell).
Aaron Cowan > I was setting up to take a picture and when I turned around Tim was looking down at me, so I told him to hold it and I'd take his picture.

Aaron Cowan > As steep as this looks, the previous steep descent was even steeper. This is along the south section of Fins'n'Things.
Aaron Cowan > This was a section of the Porcupine 4x4 trail that we decided to take since it led to a view of Negro Bill Canyon. The snow and ice we encountered wasn't expected and neither was the nasty intersection that had to be negotiated to get to the viewpoint. What looks like some sandstone steps is actually the 4x4 trail leading to the viewpoint. Given the slick conditions we decided (or I persuaded Tim) to turn around and head back.
