Owyhee Canyonlands : The Owyhee Canyonlands are a huge area in the wide open spaces of Malheur (Oregon) and Owyhee (Idaho) counties. These counties together are over 17,000 square miles and have a total population density just over 2 people/sq mi. Not many people live there and not too many go there either since most roads required high clearance and/or 4WD. This may not come close to rivaling the canyons of the Colorado Plateau but for the relatively short drive from Boise, it serves me well for there are endless outdoor adventures in this high desert area.

Jump Creek : Since my first visit to Jump Creek in Southwestern Idaho courtesy of Trevor Schultz I have gone back innumerable times. I've hiked down to many sections of the canyon above the main waterfall during Spring, Fall and Winter (Summer is reserved for the mountains...). These are the photos that I've compiled over those many hikes.

Snake River Valley : Although most of these pictures are of areas within the Snake River Valley, I've also included the City of Rocks since I didn't want to stick them in their own gallery. The Snake River is one of the longest rivers in the U.S. It flows out of Yellowstone National Park and is a tributary to the Columbia River. Shoshone Falls is also on the Snake River. This waterfall is 212 feet high and over 900 feet in width! The Snake River also has carved Hells Canyon which is reputed to be the deepest gorge in the U.S.

Eastern Oregon : With the exception of the John Day Painted Hills, all of these photos hail from Malheur County. There are still many places left in that county that I want to see but the Pillars of Rome, Leslie Gulch and Succor Creek have provided plenty of photographic opportunities for me to date.

Pacific Northwest and Coast : I've had the priviledge of experience the Pacific Northwest twice. Once was a very long trip from Boise to Seattle, then down the coast to Crescent City, CA. Earlier in 2009 a friend wanted to climb Mt. Hood so I tagged along and after the climb (just him) we spent the following day in the gorge looking at numerous waterfalls.
